Farm for Life Project

Farm for life project

The AA and AM snail species are a rich source of protein, iron, calcium, vitamin A, and other minerals. Snails also contain low amounts of fats. This has caused the local population to encroach into the mount Cameroon forest area to hunt and harvest the AA and AM snail species and other protected species for food and marketing to generate household income. The decline in the AA and AM snail species around the mount Cameroon forest area may cause extinction of these snail species. The Farm for Life Project in partnership with Helvy Farms Up Skills improve practices in the conservation of backyard snail farming. WESAD in partnership with Helvy Farms has set up a demo farm for research on multiplication of the AA and AM snail species.

Women are trained on backyard snail farming as an income generating activity. A partnership has been established with university of Bamenda where students from the College of technology use this demonstration snail farm for research mostly in snail multiplications and research results are implemented in the farm. This farm helps in the multiplication of snail seeds for other snail farmers who are interested in protecting the giant African forest snail AA and AM species and who can do backyard snail farming for conservation and income generation.

Home Grown Fish Production and value chain:

Through this project, youths are trained on fish production and processing. High-quality home-grown catfish are processed, neatly dried to taste fresh and neatly packaged. Our processed fish are crunchy, sand free and stone free.
