Women led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Guinea Forest West Africa (GFWA) biodiversity hotspot has formed a regional networking that brings together five West African countries from the Conservation hotspot of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria. It is a forum for Regional Organizations to stay connected, share opportunities, learn together, support one another and increase awareness on conservation.
Each of these countries has women in conservation networks headed by a Female Mentor. The overall Coordination of all activities for the five countries is carried out by a Women Coordinator for the entire regional network. The coordinator is based in one of the countries, currently in Liberia, and links the Network with the Tropical Biology Association African Office in Nairobi.
Based on the current regional network in existence, we propose to have the following in place.
This is intended to be on a rotational basis for a duration of six months for each country. The overall Leadership will be rotated/shared by each of the five countries to ensure that we develop greater and better experience, develop our leadership skills, share challenges as a network and decision making among other anticipated benefits. The overall Leader will also have added roles of networking with other regions of Africa/the world in Conservations, and other networks.
The arrangement is to have a Co-chair coming from a different country from where the Leadership is. For instance, if Liberia is currently the Leader, Co-chair/Deputy may be selected from say Cameroon. The idea is to ensure that there is business continuity should there be any unlikely event that may lead to the absence of the Leader/Chair.
Our network also intends to have other positions of Leadership, namely, Regional M&E who should be able to coordinate and monitor all activities being carried out in all countries and act as an oversight to ensure that the network is on track and abiding by its set objectives and this position should be able to provide guidance to the Leadership for fast tracking of progress in a country during the Progressive meetings. It may also be rotational.
We plan to have online meetings to update the regional network once a month, chaired by the Over-all Leadership and Co-Chair.
TBA will facilitate and support the Regional Networking and get guest speakers and hosts the ZOOM to talk about different topics on interest to women conservation leaders.
Members will also help by outsourcing guests from other regional bodies such as ECOWAS with great speakers to the Women Regional network meetings.
During this progressive meeting, each country Mentor will be able to provide status updates of all activities of all CSOs in her area of operations.

CSOs:
Each country will continue to have CSOs that will carry out conservations activities in each country. CSOs should be able to recruits new members of at least one in two months to join the network and advance the idea of conservations for greater impact until a time when each country will be the leading organization for Women in Conservations, in this way, we will have Women more empowered, more capacitated, more knowledgeable in conservation activities, and this will mean a better region, a better Africa.
